How Does GlassPass Work?

GlassPass is a secure marketplace with a variety of ways to buy and sell glass: negotiating with offers, bidding on auctions, or just purchasing at a set price. We take extensive steps to ensure every purchase or sale is secure, using an escrow process that protects both buyers & sellers. Through detailed documentation from both parties during a transaction, GlassPass offers the most secure platform in the industry. We put together a brief overview of how the transaction process works, with more detailed sections for Buyers & Sellers below.

  1. Buy or Sell an item via Offer, Auction, or BIN through GlassPass.
  2. Buyer makes payment directly to GlassPass, which holds the funds safely during the transaction.
  3. Seller ships the item to the Buyer & enters tracking information with postal insurance & signature following Shipping Guide.
  4. Item arrives to the Buyer, who confirms or disputes the condition of the item with an unboxing video.
  5. Seller gets paid when Buyer confirms the item is safe, or 72 hours after arrival.
    1. Note: Trusted Sellers get paid when the item is shipped, but Buyers are still protected in a dispute.

This is a brief overview of the transaction and escrow process. For a more detailed description and FAQs, keep reading below!

FAQs for Buyers

How and when am I protected when buying on GlassPass?

You are protected on GlassPass only when you:

  1. Pay for an item using the integrated payment system in the GlassPass app, using a credit or debit card, or Apple Pay.
  2. Film a complete unboxing video following our Unboxing Guidelines
  3. We cannot protect any payments made outside of GlassPass with Venmo, PayPal, Cashapp, Zelle, or any other third-party payment platforms, including trades.

Your funds are safeguarded through our escrow service. GlassPass securely holds your money until you confirm safe delivery of the item, or until 72 hours pass without your response after delivery. If the item doesn’t get shipped, arrives damaged, or isn’t as described, you may qualify for a refund upon meeting the specified criteria outlined in our Refund Policy

Who am I sending my money to?

GlassPass LLC. We hold your money until the item arrives safely as stated above.

How can I pay?

You can pay in-app with any credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay – all of which are protected.

Do I pay a fee?

When making a purchase, there’s a 2% Buyer Protection Fee that’s capped at $25. Sales tax may be added based on state requirements and your shipping address, which is sent to the government – GlassPass does not keep any sales tax funds.

FAQs for Sellers

How am I protected when selling on GlassPass?

We protect our sellers just as much as we do our buyers. If a buyer reports that an item arrived not as described, GlassPass takes extensive steps to gather evidence from the buyer. To prevent fraudulent claims, Buyers must provide a complete & unaltered unboxing video to be eligible for a refund. If a refund is granted, the buyer must return the item to you upon request, with the return shipping cost covered by the seller unless otherwise agreed. Refunds for buyers will be processed once the item has been successfully returned to the seller. Alternatively, Sellers can offer a partial refund instead of a return.

Following the Shipping Guide accurately.

We strongly recommend that sellers purchase shipping insurance for every package to ensure reimbursement if the item is lost or heavily damaged in transit.

Requiring a signature upon delivery ensures the buyer receives the item, preventing any claims of the package not arriving or being stolen off a porch.

Sellers should record the entire packaging process to be fully protected. This confirms the item(s) condition when it was shipped, and helps verify the item was delivered to the buyer’s address in the same condition. If an item is lost in transit by the shipping carrier, GlassPass cannot provide protection, but the shipping carrier’s insurance almost always covers lost packages with insurance claims. We will assist you in filing an insurance claim with the carrier.

Refer to our Terms of Use, Refund Policy, and other guidelines for more info!\

When do I get paid?

Payments are released automatically to sellers once the item safely arrives and the buyer confirms it matches the description, or after 72 hours without a response from the buyer, whichever comes first. Depending on the withdrawal method chosen, receiving your payout can take from 5-10 minutes, to 1-2 business days.

Trusted Seller payouts’ are available immediately upon dropping off the package at the shipping carrier, once the tracking number updates.

How do I get paid?

Sellers can withdraw payouts from their Dots wallet through Direct Bank Transfer (ACH), PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, AirTM, Virtual Visa prepaid cards, or Amazon Gift Cards.

Do I pay a fee?

Seller fees are tiered based on the pre-tax total sale price of each order, plus shipping. Taxes are excluded from the commission fee calculation. Our fee structure is as follows:

  • Total Price: < $100 = 7% +$1 Seller Fee
  • Total Price: $100 – $999 = 6.5% +$0.50 Seller Fee
  • Total Price: $1,000 – $10,000 = 6% Seller Fee
  • Sales over $10,000 are available by request.

General FAQs

What is GlassPass?

GlassPass is a secure marketplace platform & the largest community of glass art collectors, artists, and galleries. Buy, sell, or auction glass safely with our proprietary escrow system and integrated payment & payout flows geared for heady glass. Available now as a mobile app on iOS and Android, we have a functional desktop marketplace underway in 2024. Every transaction on GlassPass is protected for both buyers & sellers.

How does GlassPass work?

There are 3 ways to buy or sell on GlassPass:

  1. Buy it Now (BIN)
  2. Offers
  3. Auctions

GlassPass protects all transactions made through the in-app payment system. When a buyer pays for an item, the funds are securely held by GlassPass. After the seller ships the item and it is safely received by the buyer (or after 72 hours), the payment is released to the seller. Buyers can only file a dispute within the app and must include a proper unboxing video as per our Unboxing Guidelines. When the payment is sent to the seller, a fee is deducted from the final amount. The fee structure is as follows:

  • Total Price: < $100 = 7% +$1 Seller Fee
  • Total Price: $100 – $999 = 6.5% +$0.50 Seller Fee
  • Total Price: $1,000 – $10,000 = 6% Seller Fee
  • Sales over $10,000 are available by request.

Are both buyers and sellers protected?

Yes, buyers and sellers are protected on all transactions made through the in-app payment system.

  • Buyers are protected from items not arriving, arriving broken or not as described, or not being sent at all, provided they have a proper unboxing video and proof.
  • When sellers ship an item, GlassPass has requirements in place to prevent fraudulent claims from buyers about items not arriving, being broken or misadvertised, or not being sent. We ensure that sellers are just as protected as buyers.

How do Offers on GlassPass work?

When a buyer makes an offer, the seller can choose to accept, reject, or counter-offer. If the seller accepts the offer, the buyer’s selected payment method will be charged right away. If the seller declines the offer, no payment is made. If the buyer’s payment method fails, they have 24 hours to complete the payment for the item to GlassPass before the offer expires and the transaction is canceled. If the offer is canceled, the transaction is also canceled and no payment is made. The buyer can submit another offer if they wish.

How does Buy It Now on GlassPass work?

Buy It Now is a feature that allows you to purchase an item immediately at a set price without waiting for an auction or negotiation. After you tap “Buy Now” on a listing and complete your payment, your payment method will be charged immediately, and the seller is notified to ship the item to you. The funds are held securely by GlassPass until you receive the item safely.

How do Auctions on GlassPass work?

  • Auctions on GlassPass are a process where buyers can place bids on an item during a set period of time. When the time runs out, the bidder with the highest bid wins the auction and pays once the auction ends. If you win an auction, you will be charged right when the auction ends. If your payment method fails, you have 24 hours to complete the payment; otherwise, the transaction will be canceled. Refer to our Auctions Guide for a more detailed description of Auctions on GlassPass! All auctions are protected in the same way Buy It Now and Offers are!
  • Every auction automatically includes an anti-snipe feature. If a bid is placed within the last 3 minutes of the auction, the auction is extended by 3 minutes. The auction can be extended by a maximum of 24 hours.
  • Sellers can set a reserve price, which is the minimum amount a seller is willing to accept for an item. If bids do not reach this amount, the item will not be sold. This ensures the seller doesn’t have to sell the item for less than they believe it’s worth.
  • Sellers can set a BIN price, which is the amount a buyer can purchase the item at immediately, ending the auction prematurely.

What is escrow?

Escrow is the use of a third party (GlassPass), which holds funds before they are transferred from the buyer to the seller. GlassPass holds the funds until both buyer and seller have fulfilled their requirements of the transaction (i.e. the item arriving safely and the buyer verifying with an unboxing video).
