What is 710? The Cannabis Community’s Day to Celebrate Concentrates

While 420 is all about flower, 710 is the holiday that puts concentrates front and center. Celebrated every July 10th, 710 (that’s “OIL” upside down when flipped on a calculator) is dedicated to everything from live resin and rosin to hash and wax. For fans of dabbing, this day is more than just a novelty – it’s a cultural touchstone that honors the science, the artistry, and the experience behind cannabis concentrates.

Whether you’re a longtime dabber or just curious about diving into the world of oils, 710 is the perfect time to elevate your setup and celebrate with style. Let's break down where this holiday came from, what you’ll need to get the most out of it, and why this moment matters so much to the cannabis community.

A Quick Look at the Origins of 710

While the origins of 4/20 date back to the 1970s, 710 is a relatively newer celebration, first gaining traction in the early 2010s. The term was reportedly coined around 2010 and began popping up on online forums and in underground cannabis scenes. One of the first major mainstream acknowledgments was the "710 Cup" – a competition launched by High Times in 2012 that showcased the best concentrate producers, glass artists, and dab rigs in the game.

Since then, July 10th has become the unofficial international holiday for dabbing, much like 4/20 is for smoking flower. It’s a day to appreciate innovation in extraction, acknowledge the craftsmanship of glass artists, and most importantly, enjoy your favorite concentrates with your community.

Why Does it Matter?

710 isn’t just about getting high, it’s about celebrating how far cannabis culture has come. The concentrate world has exploded over the last decade, thanks to extraction experts, science-forward enthusiasts, and of course, the glass artists pushing the boundaries of what a dab rig can be.

Supporting these creators, whether by purchasing a hand-blown piece or just showing up for a local sesh, helps the community thrive. So this 710, light your torch (or click your Puffco), gather your gear, and take a moment to appreciate the science and soul behind every dab.
